About Canton Challenger Baseball

The origins of Canton Challenger Baseball date back to 1991, and a teacher's aide with a heart for helping her students reach their dreams.  Bonnie McClellan was working at Day School when a student asked her if she knew where he could play baseball as he was unable to play with his typical developing kids in his neighborhood.  Bonnie had recently attended the Little League World Series and learned of the Challenger division they had begun in 1989.  Bonnie found unwavering support from the Holly Hills Little League Organization and the Challenger division began organizing coaches and players.  Starting the first year with 1 team, approximately 30 players, and the late Jack Calhoun managed the Tigers in that inaugural year,.

The Challenger Division grew slowly year after year.  Around 2019 and nearing 150 players the Canton Challenger Baseball group had grown large enough to begin their own charter within Little League.  In 2023,  32 years later, the league boasts nearly 180 players between the regular Little League Division and the newer Senior Division that allows participation into adulthood.

Canton Challenger Baseball is operated by a volunteer board that works to ensure baseball is an option for everyone who wants to play.  Organizing fundraisers, opening day, league games, and tournaments just as we have since 1991.  The organization is always in need of people wanting to be involved, contact us to see what opportunities are still available.
